Nebraska City Council Approves Community Paramedicine Partnership

first_imgLINCOLN – Fire department paramedics and emergency medical technicians would make basic health care house calls on some McCook area residents under a program that’s expected to begin by the end of January. The council last week approved a memorandum of understanding that will require approval from department’s two program partners: Community Hospital and McCook Clinic. The Community Hospital Health Foundation has committed $10,000 for the program, the McCook Daily Gazette reported ( ).McCook Fire Chief Marc Harpham told the City Council that Community Paramedicine is aimed at reducing the burden on emergency personnel. The program lets the hospital and clinic screen patients to see who might benefit from the extra at-home help.“These are patients that kind of fall through the cracks, so to speak,” he said, adding that they don’t qualify for home health care, and might not understand or are unable to follow medical instructions provided as they leave the hospital. Many of the participants likely will be people often seen in the emergency room and transported by the department ambulance repeatedly, Harpham said. The overall goal is to minimize those nonemergency transports and increase the medical services to those patients at their homes. The medics’ free visits “would just consist of doing some basic assessment, blood pressure, vital signs, checking sugars, doing some education with them if we need to,” Harpham said. “All of the things that we intend on doing with this are currently within the regulations, within our scope of practice as paramedics but also as EMTs,” he said. Each patient in the program will be visited four times over a four-week period. No more than 10 patients will be seen during a month, Harpham said, and no more than 120 patients in the first year. He expects most of the program participants will be McCook residents, although his department’s ambulance service area covers 320 square miles of southwest Nebraska.“It’s not where they live but what their circumstances are,” the chief said told The Associated Press on Monday.last_img read more

Matt Loedecenter_img The MLB Trade Deadline is now just over a week away, and there’s plenty of eyes on the Indians and what they are going to do with a roster that has been playing some of the best baseball of the season in the last two months. The team is three games away from first (something that many thought would never happen) in the AL Central, and the team is 16 games over .500 after the win over the Jays on Monday. With that, some have now felt the team will be buyers in the trade market next week – and has a set of predictions which includes the team getting – wait for it – outfielder Yasiel Puig from the Reds. Here’s what said about such a move:The Reds received a great deal of credit last winter for adding to their team in an attempt to break a skid of six straight losing seasons, but it hasn’t worked — at 44-53, they’re once again in last place in the NL Central. That means they’ll likely pivot and sell off their impending free agents, and that might mean Puig, who shook off a brutal start (.192/.226/.354 in April) to rake; since June 1, he’s been one of the 20 best hitters in baseball (.318/.358/.635), as good as Cody Bellinger or Alex Bregman. There’s actually a strong baseball fit with the Cubs, though we’ll consider that unlikely after last month’s Pedro Strop-related shenanigans, so Puig stays in Ohio, heading to a Cleveland club that’s back in the playoff race and still in need of outfield help, even with Oscar Mercado and Tyler Naquin playing well.So if the Indians are in the ‘buying’ for Puig, what does that mean for pitcher Trevor Bauer, who many think the team will move due to his value and next year’s rising salary? For now, says that the team will KEEP Bauer, saying the team simply ‘can’t make this move right now.’It’s tempting to think Cleveland could buy and sell at the same time — Tampa Bay did this last year when they traded Chris Archer away while acquiring Tommy Pham — but the Indians have played so well lately that they’re just three games out in the AL Central and in possession of a Wild Card spot. They still don’t have firm return dates on Corey Kluber or Carlos Carrasco, though they expect to see both again this season. This would be different if they were still 11 1/2 games out, as they were in June, but they can’t make this move now. An offseason Bauer trade might still be in the cards.last_img read more

Mr. Met’s uniform

first_imgYes, Mr. Met and other mascots have different costumes. I remember Mr. Met having some kind of rain gear (yellow rain coat and hat) last year. SportsLogos.Net Didn’t you know it’s Mr. Met that decides what the Mets are going to wear that night? Link to post 0 Mr. Met’s uniform Actually, I spoke with one of the guys who plays Mr Met outside the stadium before a playoff game a few years ago. Wait. You are telling me that Mr. Met is not real, but a person in costume? First Santa, then the world of sport mascots. My world is now shattered. Mr. Met was wearing a black hat, and the black jersey that reads “Mets”.Tonight (and last night), the Mets are wearing their black road jerseys, with “New York” across them.My question is this?does Mr. Met have multiple uniforms, depending on what the Mets wear, or does he always wear the black hat and jersey?I suppose this could extend to other mascots as well, I ‘ve never noticed if they change uniforms either. Link to post slapshot Members Actually, I spoke with one of the guys who plays Mr Met outside the stadium before a playoff game a few years ago. The team does not tell the Mets Party Patrol, of which Mr Met is a part, what uniform they are wearing that day, Mr Met has to guess. He has the current home jerseys and he has a blue and a black cap. He also has a Superman outfit, an Elvis outfit and the rain gear, among others. He does not have road jerseys.
