Marilyn Manson Brings Out Johnny Depp to Play Guitar on ‘Beautiful People’ in Los Angeles

first_imgJohnny Depp has been making special guest appearances all over the place in 2014. The actor/musician has played with Paul McCartney, Ryan Adams, Aerosmith, and even filled in for Elvis Costello when the musician had to miss a recording session for the New Basement Tapes (recordings of Bob Dylan penned songs that features Costello, Jim James, Marcus Mumford, and more).Well, chalk another one up for Depp, as he came out to play guitar with Marilyn Manson during a “Beautiful People” encore at the shock rocker’s show at The Roxy on Halloween in Los Angeles. The two have been friends since the late 90’s and Depp even performed with Manson at the 2012 Revolver Golden Gods Award Show. Manson also brought out Die Antwoord‘s Ninja to do some nonsensical yelling and jumping around. Also, Manson really likes Depp’s man-parts (join the club), as he can’t get enough of grabbing Depp’s ass and his frontal section. Hey, its rock n’ roll, right? Anything goes.[via Rolling Stone]last_img read more

Oklahoma City Streetcar breaks ground

first_imgUSA: Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett attended a groundbreaking ceremony for the city’s streetcar project on February 7. A joint venture of Herzog and Stacy & Witbeck is building the line, with ADG, Jacobs Engineering, Aecom and SOJ providing consultancy services. Opening is scheduled for December 2018. The main route would consist of a figure-of-eight linking Bricktown with Midtown. Mainline Route services are envisaged to run in one direction around this 7·5 route-km loop, supplemented by a 3·2 km Bricktown Loop that overlaps with part of the Mainline Route at the southern end. There would be 22 stops in total, including nine shared between the two routes. Brookville Equipment Corp is supplying five low-floor trams, the first of which is due to arrive in October. These will run in mixed traffic, and will be equipped with batteries for off-wire operation, which will be required on parts of the route. A maintenance depot is being built at SW 7th Street and Hudson Avenue. Regional transport authority Embark is negotiating an operations contract with Herzog Transit Services. The project budget is $131m, funded through the proceeds of a 1% sales tax under the MAPS 3 capital improvement programme. ‘The MAPS 3 OKC Streetcar is one of the most ambitious projects in Oklahoma City’s history, and it will forever transform the way we live, shop, work, play, eat and get around downtown and the surrounding districts’, said Cornett.last_img read more

Security: Businesses Invest in Security Protection Products

first_imgSpecialized Threat Analysis and Protection (STAP) is a term used by research firm IDC to designate security threats made by malware against financial and intellectual property theft.  The STAP market is growing at a compound annual rate of 42.2 percent through the year 2017.  By 2017, the market should reach $1.17 billion.Ruggero Contu, Research Director at Gartner, commented that “consistent increase in the complexity and volume of targeted attacks, coupled with compliance-related issues continue to support security market growth.”Andy Steingruebl, Director at PayPal mobile security, said that “Big data and advanced targeted attacks would be the main forces shaping the security technology market. Advanced attackers are now capable of spying inside an organisation once they successfully breach security controls.”The IDC study found that there was a great variety of approaches taken by vendors in the design of STAP products.  The study notes that these products can be applied in a layered fashion and, because of that, can be used in a complementary way.  For example, protections may be applied at endpoints and again at the network level.  Some of the detection techniques used by these products include sandboxing, emulation, big data analytics and containerization.  Ultimately many STAP functions are expected to be incorporated into traditional security products.John Grady, research manager with IDC’s Security Products group, said that “organizations have quickly begun to realize that they need improved protection against targeted attacks.  IDC has seen these solutions become a strategic necessity for many organizations, especially in the financial services and government sectors, with budget being quickly allocated to prioritize deployment.”A Ponemon study found that only about 31 percent of businesses currently are insured against data breaches, but that number continues to grow.  Companies now rank the possibility of the risk of cyber attack as a risk more likely to occur than natural disasters or other business risks.last_img read more
