3 things worth talking about Penalties prove to be a problem In the first quarter when Jermaine Whitehead (personal foul for tackling Amari Cooper well out of bounds) and Kris Frost (facemask on Jalston Fowler) were whistled for 15-yard penalties on back-to-back plays. You can’t give up 30 yards in field position to the No. 1 team in the country and expect to keep a team out of the end zone. The Tide scored three plays later to complete an 80-yard drive. Head scratching plays In a 41-38 loss to Texas A&M, Auburn lost with two fumbles in the final two minutes — one on a poor exchange and another when center Reese Dismukes snapped the ball to no one. Fast forward to Saturday, when Dismukes fired a shotgun snap that hit wide receiver Marcus Davis, who was in motion on the play. Davis recovered the loose ball and actually gained 2 yards. Feast or famine for Sammie Wide receiver Sammie Coates dropped a few of Nick Marshall’s rifle shots from close range. Maybe he just needed to be further away to make the play. Marshall connected with Coates on touchdown passes for 34 and 68 yards and a 40-yarder that set up a field goal for a 26-21 halftime lead. MINI GRADES Rushing offense — B: Success everywhere except the red zone where yards became tough and turned into FGs.Rushing defense — D: T.J. Yeldon scored twice in the first half, and you wondered why Alabama didn’t give him the ball more.Passing offense — A: Nick Marshall missed early, but found Sammie Coates four times for 153 yards and for two touchdowns in the first halfPassing defense — B: The Tigers intercepted Blake Sims three times but still struggled guarding Amari Cooper.Special teams — A: Daniel Carlson made all five of his FG attempts, and the Tigers blocked an extra point attempt.Coaching — B: Auburn showed more effort than it did against Georgia, and its passing offense came to life.Overall — B: Auburn came up short of knocking off the top-ranked Crimson Tide for the second straight season.

This week’s International Association of Interviewers interview and interrogation training tip provided by Wicklander-Zulawski, has Tammy Clark, CFI, CFE discussing how to back out of the interview. As you may be aware, there are a number of reasons why we may want to back out of an interview, including safety concerns, medical issues, time, continuous denials, and, of course, if your subject is innocent. We should always treat everyone with dignity and respect. We don’t want the employee to cause any additional issues should and when they return to work. One way to accomplish this is by using the selective interview, which allows the subject to feel like they are part of the process.- Sponsor – Once you realize that you need to back out of the interview, you may pull out the selective interview form from your case file and start asking the subject questions like, “Who could have done this?” Who would you vouch for?” and “Who had the best opportunity?” Asking the subject these questions allows them to feel like they are part of the investigative process, while also giving them time to relax before they return to work.As always, be sure that you follow any and all company policies that are in place throughout the process.Every loss prevention investigator should continuously strive to enhance their investigative interviewing skills as part of an ongoing commitment to best-in-class interviewing performance. This includes holding ourselves to an elite standard of interview and interrogation training that is ethical, moral and legal while demanding excellence in the pursuit of the truth. Specialized Threat Analysis and Protection (STAP) is a term used by research firm IDC to designate security threats made by malware against financial and intellectual property theft. The STAP market is growing at a compound annual rate of 42.2 percent through the year 2017. By 2017, the market should reach $1.17 billion.Ruggero Contu, Research Director at Gartner, commented that “consistent increase in the complexity and volume of targeted attacks, coupled with compliance-related issues continue to support security market growth.”Andy Steingruebl, Director at PayPal mobile security, said that “Big data and advanced targeted attacks would be the main forces shaping the security technology market. Advanced attackers are now capable of spying inside an organisation once they successfully breach security controls.”The IDC study found that there was a great variety of approaches taken by vendors in the design of STAP products. The study notes that these products can be applied in a layered fashion and, because of that, can be used in a complementary way. For example, protections may be applied at endpoints and again at the network level. Some of the detection techniques used by these products include sandboxing, emulation, big data analytics and containerization. Ultimately many STAP functions are expected to be incorporated into traditional security products.John Grady, research manager with IDC’s Security Products group, said that “organizations have quickly begun to realize that they need improved protection against targeted attacks. IDC has seen these solutions become a strategic necessity for many organizations, especially in the financial services and government sectors, with budget being quickly allocated to prioritize deployment.”A Ponemon study found that only about 31 percent of businesses currently are insured against data breaches, but that number continues to grow. Companies now rank the possibility of the risk of cyber attack as a risk more likely to occur than natural disasters or other business risks.
Entering yesterday’s National Signing Day, Alabama sat behind schools like Florida State, LSU, Michigan, and Ohio State in the national recruiting rankings. After a huge day, highlighted by the commitments of five-star linebackers Ben Davis and Mack Wilson, the Crimson Tide class was ranked No. 1 by three of the four major recruiting services: 247Sports, Rivals, and Scout. Here are how the rankings for those sites shook out after the dust settled on National Signing Day.247Sports:Rivals:Scout:The one ranking site that spurned Alabama? According to ESPN, the Crimson Tide were edged out by the Florida State Seminoles. As you’d expect with those results, 247Sports’ composite ranking, which utilizes all four of the major services, also has Alabama No. 1.Alabama has four national championships on the field under Nick Saban, and amazingly, they are even more dominant in the recruiting game. The Tide have signed a top recruiting class for six straight years now, and there is no sign that Saban and his staff are slowing down.
zoom At the start of 2016 the outlook for Chinese iron ore import growth appeared challenging, however, the imports went on to significantly outperform expectations during the year and break the 1 billion tonne mark along the way, according to Clarkson Research.Chinese iron ore import growth performed at a level far higher than many had expected last year. In early 2016, expectations were shaped by both a 2% drop in the country’s steel output and a five year low in Chinese iron ore import growth in 2015, as well as plans for continued cuts to steel capacity. However, Chinese seaborne iron ore imports increased by 7% to a record 1,008 mt, largely stimulated by three key factors. The first key driver of record Chinese iron ore imports in 2016 was a stabilisation in the country’s steel output, following a 2% drop to 804 mt in 2015. The country’s steel output continued to decline in the first half of 2016, given limited domestic demand. While Chinese steel mills increased steel products shipments to foreign markets by 9% y-o-y in the first half of 2016, the 57 mt shipped in the period was insufficient to support overall Chinese steel output growth.Chinese steel products exports also dropped 14% y-o-y to 51 mt in the second half of 2016, following the introduction of tariffs by several importers, but also due to firming Chinese steel demand.A further driver of Chinese iron ore import growth in 2016 was the drop in the country’s domestic iron ore output. Financial pressure on Chinese miners from depressed iron ore prices throughout much of the year contributed to a 6% y-o-y decline in the country’s domestic iron ore output, to a six year low of 1.3 bn tonnes in full year 2016, Clarksons cited NBS data. Finally, Chinese iron ore stockpiling increased sharply in 2016, partly reflecting improved expectations for steel output at Chinese mills as the year progressed. By the start of January 2017, iron ore inventories at 41 Chinese ports reached 114 mt, up 19% from the start of 2016 and the highest level in over two years.“While the sustainability of this stronger growth may be questioned, in 2016 at least, China performed above expectations and overall was the bright spot for seaborne dry bulk trade once again,” Clarkson Research said.
