This week’s International Association of Interviewers interview and interrogation training tip provided by Wicklander-Zulawski, has Tammy Clark, CFI, CFE discussing how to back out of the interview. As you may be aware, there are a number of reasons why we may want to back out of an interview, including safety concerns, medical issues, time, continuous denials, and, of course, if your subject is innocent. We should always treat everyone with dignity and respect. We don’t want the employee to cause any additional issues should and when they return to work. One way to accomplish this is by using the selective interview, which allows the subject to feel like they are part of the process.- Sponsor – Once you realize that you need to back out of the interview, you may pull out the selective interview form from your case file and start asking the subject questions like, “Who could have done this?” Who would you vouch for?” and “Who had the best opportunity?” Asking the subject these questions allows them to feel like they are part of the investigative process, while also giving them time to relax before they return to work.As always, be sure that you follow any and all company policies that are in place throughout the process.Every loss prevention investigator should continuously strive to enhance their investigative interviewing skills as part of an ongoing commitment to best-in-class interviewing performance. This includes holding ourselves to an elite standard of interview and interrogation training that is ethical, moral and legal while demanding excellence in the pursuit of the truth. Specialized Threat Analysis and Protection (STAP) is a term used by research firm IDC to designate security threats made by malware against financial and intellectual property theft. The STAP market is growing at a compound annual rate of 42.2 percent through the year 2017. By 2017, the market should reach $1.17 billion.Ruggero Contu, Research Director at Gartner, commented that “consistent increase in the complexity and volume of targeted attacks, coupled with compliance-related issues continue to support security market growth.”Andy Steingruebl, Director at PayPal mobile security, said that “Big data and advanced targeted attacks would be the main forces shaping the security technology market. Advanced attackers are now capable of spying inside an organisation once they successfully breach security controls.”The IDC study found that there was a great variety of approaches taken by vendors in the design of STAP products. The study notes that these products can be applied in a layered fashion and, because of that, can be used in a complementary way. For example, protections may be applied at endpoints and again at the network level. Some of the detection techniques used by these products include sandboxing, emulation, big data analytics and containerization. Ultimately many STAP functions are expected to be incorporated into traditional security products.John Grady, research manager with IDC’s Security Products group, said that “organizations have quickly begun to realize that they need improved protection against targeted attacks. IDC has seen these solutions become a strategic necessity for many organizations, especially in the financial services and government sectors, with budget being quickly allocated to prioritize deployment.”A Ponemon study found that only about 31 percent of businesses currently are insured against data breaches, but that number continues to grow. Companies now rank the possibility of the risk of cyber attack as a risk more likely to occur than natural disasters or other business risks.
Entering yesterday’s National Signing Day, Alabama sat behind schools like Florida State, LSU, Michigan, and Ohio State in the national recruiting rankings. After a huge day, highlighted by the commitments of five-star linebackers Ben Davis and Mack Wilson, the Crimson Tide class was ranked No. 1 by three of the four major recruiting services: 247Sports, Rivals, and Scout. Here are how the rankings for those sites shook out after the dust settled on National Signing Day.247Sports:Rivals:Scout:The one ranking site that spurned Alabama? According to ESPN, the Crimson Tide were edged out by the Florida State Seminoles. As you’d expect with those results, 247Sports’ composite ranking, which utilizes all four of the major services, also has Alabama No. 1.Alabama has four national championships on the field under Nick Saban, and amazingly, they are even more dominant in the recruiting game. The Tide have signed a top recruiting class for six straight years now, and there is no sign that Saban and his staff are slowing down.
zoom At the start of 2016 the outlook for Chinese iron ore import growth appeared challenging, however, the imports went on to significantly outperform expectations during the year and break the 1 billion tonne mark along the way, according to Clarkson Research.Chinese iron ore import growth performed at a level far higher than many had expected last year. In early 2016, expectations were shaped by both a 2% drop in the country’s steel output and a five year low in Chinese iron ore import growth in 2015, as well as plans for continued cuts to steel capacity. However, Chinese seaborne iron ore imports increased by 7% to a record 1,008 mt, largely stimulated by three key factors. The first key driver of record Chinese iron ore imports in 2016 was a stabilisation in the country’s steel output, following a 2% drop to 804 mt in 2015. The country’s steel output continued to decline in the first half of 2016, given limited domestic demand. While Chinese steel mills increased steel products shipments to foreign markets by 9% y-o-y in the first half of 2016, the 57 mt shipped in the period was insufficient to support overall Chinese steel output growth.Chinese steel products exports also dropped 14% y-o-y to 51 mt in the second half of 2016, following the introduction of tariffs by several importers, but also due to firming Chinese steel demand.A further driver of Chinese iron ore import growth in 2016 was the drop in the country’s domestic iron ore output. Financial pressure on Chinese miners from depressed iron ore prices throughout much of the year contributed to a 6% y-o-y decline in the country’s domestic iron ore output, to a six year low of 1.3 bn tonnes in full year 2016, Clarksons cited NBS data. Finally, Chinese iron ore stockpiling increased sharply in 2016, partly reflecting improved expectations for steel output at Chinese mills as the year progressed. By the start of January 2017, iron ore inventories at 41 Chinese ports reached 114 mt, up 19% from the start of 2016 and the highest level in over two years.“While the sustainability of this stronger growth may be questioned, in 2016 at least, China performed above expectations and overall was the bright spot for seaborne dry bulk trade once again,” Clarkson Research said.
Redshirt senior quarterback J.T. Barrett (16) prepares to call a play in the third quarter against Nebraska in Memorial Stadium on Oct. 14. Credit: Jack Westerheide | Photo EditorIn Ohio State’s home opening loss, the team averaged just 5.1 yards per play and scored only 16 points.Since then, the offense has averaged 7.8 yards per play and 53.2 points per game. Whether it be improved play, new personnel, different play-calling or some combination of the three, something would appear to have changed with the team. But to co-offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson, the difference in the production might be more attributed to improved chemistry rather than any other drastic changes to the team.“I felt earlier in the year when we struggled, we didn’t come into the game with momentum,” Wilson said. “I think we’ve came through each week with momentum. Now you’ve still got to execute on Saturdays, but I think we’re coming into the game with some confidence and some momentum during the week of practice.”With each win Ohio State has secured, the team seems to be clicking more as a cohesive group of players and finding more success in nearly everything it has tried. But why wasn’t the 49-21 win against Indiana enough to propel the Buckeyes into their clash against Oklahoma?Quarterback J.T. Barrett believes the key to building momentum does not come as much from practice as much as it does from executing plays in games. At the time of the Oklahoma game, the Buckeyes had played just one game and were still searching for their identity.“I think it’s interesting being that in college, we don’t have a preseason,” Barrett said. “In NFL preseason games, they get time to get going as far as actual game to football. We just try to do the best we can in practice. And everything doesn’t click in the first weeks of college football.”As far as changes to playcalling or improved execution of those plays, the Buckeyes believe they are right where they were at the beginning of the season. The only difference now is that they have had a chance to thoroughly knock some rust off and the individuals are now starting to play more like a team. “We’ve put it all together the way those groups can play,” Wilson said. “What we’re trying to sell right now, the more we play together, the more we play for each other, linemen stepping up, the second and third tight ends, second and third running backs, five, six, seven receivers. The more guys play, the more energy is. It grows, that chemistry.”Could it be that simple? Is the only key to beating a top-five opponent just having more chemistry on the team? Redshirt junior wide receiver Johnnie Dixon said it just might be. The starting wideout believes Ohio State’s improved play is a direct result of the team just connecting better with each other. He felt fine with how the team was preparing earlier in the season, even after it took its loss to Oklahoma. Now it’s just about everyone executing better.“I just feel like you approach every day the same,” Dixon said. “If you don’t approach the date being the best you can, you’re going to lose. Different opponents come, but it’s still the same thing week after week. You’ve still got to be at your best.”The Buckeyes will train to maintain the momentum and chemistry through the off week before its matchup against Penn State.

Germany boss Joachim Low feels that it’s very unlikely that Mesut Ozil will ever retract his decision to retire from international footballThe Arsenal playmaker announced his retirement following Germany’s disastrous World Cup campaign that saw them eliminated at the group stages.Ozil cited German Football Federation (DFB) president Reinhard Grindel’s discrimination and “incompetence” as one of his main reasons for leaving the national side. The 29-year-old did suggest though that he may make a comeback if the “feeling of racism and disrespect” from the DFB disappears. But Low says his gone and that’s it.“In my view, Mesut Ozil has clearly declared his retirement and closed the door by himself with that, so a comeback is not a topic,” he told Sport Bild, via SportsKeeda.Top 5 Bundesliga players to watch during the weekend Tomás Pavel Ibarra Meda – September 11, 2019 With the international activity cooling down for the next month, we go back to the Bundesliga’s Top 5 players to watch next weekend. The German…Low revealed last week that he has not been able to talk to Ozil since his announcement.“Mesut did not call me, not to this very day,” he said.“I tried to reach him several times in the past two weeks, via text message, via phone.
